MARCH 10TH, 2008
On
March 9th, the parishioners of St. Nicholas Church bid farewell to cheesefare week and began the Great Lent. The day began
with our new tradition of serving an akathist to the icon of the Mother of God "I am with you and no one is against you,"
before the Divine Liturgy. After the festive Divine Liturgy Fr. Serge delivered a very moving sermon during which he called
all the faithful to repentance and prayer during these very holy days of Great Lent. The Forgiveness Vespers began after the
sermon and everyone felt the instant change of atmosphere in the church. The choir adorned the Vespers with beautiful lenten
singing, the clergy were now in black vestments and it was time to begin the famous prayer of St. Ephrem along with the full
prostrations. Upon completion of the Vespers the entire church joined together to sing the Pascha Sticheras before asking
each other for forgiveness. After the service the parish came together for one last "trapeza" of traditional Russian
blini. The luncheon was held in the spirit of brotherly love and gave the parish one last opportunity to enjoy a festive meal
together before the beginning of lent. May God grant us the spiritual strength to complete these 47 holy days of lent and
greet the Great Feast of the Pascha of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

His Grace Bishop Meletiy of Khotin visited our parish on January 23rd for the feast of St. Theophan
the Recluse. On January 22nd, parishioners Dimitri and Maria hosted a dinner in honor of our dear Vladika. The next day, Vladika
visited our parish to pray with us at the Divine Liturgy. At the conclusion of the liturgy, Fr. Serge welcomed Vladika, and
noted the historical significance of his visit, as this was the first time a bishop of the Moscow Patriarchate participated
in a service at St. Nicholas parish. Vladika responded by expressing his joy in joining us for the service and passed along
his best wishes for the future of our parish. In his sermon, Vladika mentioned how wonderful it is to see St. Theophan's
memory honored in a country that the Holy Hierarch never even dreamed of visiting. St. Theophan is one of the great saints
of the last 200 years and his writing have been a spiritual inspiration for millions of Orthodox Christians. After the liturgy,
Fr. Serge gave Vladika a tour of Red Bank and showed him the Navesink River, which was recently blessed on the Epiphany. Vladika
Meletiy is the vicar bishop to Metropolitan Onuphry of Chernovtsy, a dear friend of our parish. Glory be to God for sending
His Grace to our parish and spiritually uplifting all of us.

Our very own parishioner, Reader Gregory Levitsky, was fortunate enough to travel to Moscow for
the Nativity celebrations. Reader Gregory received a letter of recommendation from the office of the Metropolitan, and was
allowed to serve and read in the Nativity services at Christ the Savior Patriarchal Cathedral in Moscow. Reader Gregory spoke
to His Holiness Patriarch Alexey and passed along our sincere congratulations from the rector and the parish. His Holiness
also passed along his best wishes to our small parish. Glory be to God for bestowing this blessing on our parish and for Reader
Gregory's safe return to America.

JANUARY 16TH, 2008
Our neighbors at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 150 River Road, have been kind enough to
lend their dining facilities to our parish on the Epiphany. Pastor Dean Brown very graciously offered the use of his parish
hall so that our parishioners can share a festive luncheon after the blessing of the waters in the Navesink. We are grateful
to the Lord for sending us such hospitable and friendly neighbors. The luncheon will begin after the procession returns to
the church. For more details click here.

JANUARY 14TH, 2008
Our parish has been blessed with a very talented choir that adorns the services with beautiful
singing. To share the joy that our parishioners feel at the divine services, we have added a section to our website dedicated
entirely to our choir. There you will find both audio and video files of our choir for your listening enjoyment. Our parish
is very grateful to our singers who tirelessly dedicate their time to make the services so prayerful. May God bless all of
you! Click here to visit our choir section.

JANUARY 14TH, 2008
On Sunday January 13th, the parishioners of St. Nicholas Church came together to bid farewell
to the great feast of the Nativity of Christ. Upon completion of the liturgy, the entire church sang the troparion and kondakion
to the Nativity as Fr. Serge censed the icon for the final time. After the icon was carried into the altar, the Nativity feast
was officially over; and it was now time to look towards the future. The church was filled with anticipation as the rector
read off who would play which role in the upcoming procession on the feast of the Epiphany. After the service, a group of
parishioners made the walk down to the Navesink river to begin planning the final details of the procession. Later on in the
day, the parishioners gathered at the church once again to celebrate the Church new year and the memory of St. Basil the Great.
After the vigil service, a molieben was served to ask for God's blessing in the new year. Despite the long day and cold
weather, the level of enthusiasm was tremendous because of the upcoming procession and the arrival of the new year. Click here for pictures.

JANUARY 11TH, 2008
On January 10th, the Epiphany Committee met at the rectors residence to discuss plans for the
upcoming procession and blessing of waters on Epiphany. Among the items on the agenda were the distribution of roles for parishioners
in the procession and the technical aspect of how this celebration would happen. Reader Peter Lukianov was assigned as the
coordinator for the procession and public relations adviser. Stay tuned for more details as they get published on our website.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Fr. Serge thanked the members of the committee, and asked for prayers that the Lord would
send fair weather on this joyous day for our parish and the city of Red Bank.

JANUARY 9TH, 2008:
Through God's mercy, the parishioners of St. Nicholas Church have successfully completed
the festive Nativity weekend. After many rehearsals, our choir adorned the services with angelic singing that was felt by
everyone present. The church was beautifully decorated under the skilled supervision of Warden Eugene Stupin, who paid special
attention to every detail in preparing God's holy house for the Nativity. The full cycle of festive services was completed
starting with the Royal Hours, Great Vespers, Great Compline and of course the Divine Liturgies on Sunday and Monday.
The rector would like to thank all those who toiled for the glory of God in making our holidays so prayerful and memorable.
Glory be to God for all things! Click here for pictures and video from the Nativity weekend.

JANUARY 4TH, 2008
Upon completion of the Royal Hours, Fr. Serge, along with a delegation
from the parish, were received by the Honorable Mayor of Red Bank, Pasquale Menna. The meeting was held in the spirit of friendship
and mutual interest in the community of Red Bank. Fr. Serge proposed the idea of having a procession from the church to the
Navesink River on Epiphany, in order to bless the waters. The Mayor graciously accepted the proposal and went even farther
to suggest, that the blessing of the waters mark the beginning of celebrations in honor of the cities centennial anniversary.
Mr. Menna pledged his full support to the parish in helping to make the blessing of the waters, a historic and memorable event
for the entire city. Many other ideas were exchanged during the meeting, which would help the parish to grow and become an
active part of the community, contributing all the best that the Russian faith and culture have to offer. At the conclusion
of the meeting, Fr. Serge thanked the Mayor for his generosity and genuine concern for our small parish.
