Dear in the Lord Brothers and Sisters,

After the passing of His Holiness, Patriarch Alexey, on December 5, 2008, a great sorrow came upon the orphaned Russian Orthodox Church, and for forty days we prayed for the newly departed Patriarch. An important time for all Russian Orthodox Christians is upon us – the election of a new Patriarch of our Holy Church. From January 25 to 29, the Council of Bishops and the Local Council will take place in the Patriarchal See of Moscow, at which will be elected the new Patriarch. The Council is not just a gathering of delegates, for the Lord Himself is the Head of the Church, and He invisibly presides over the Council by the Grace of the Holy Spirit. The strength of the Holy Spirit is incomprehensible; “Every soul is enlivened by the Holy Spirit, and is exalted in purity, illumined by the Holy Trinity in a sacred mystery.” Let us strengthen our humble prayers to Christ, the Chief Shepherd, that His Holy Will will be made clear and be fulfilled at the Council. In our times, many people consider it their duty to discuss and debate the actions of the Council, but this is lawless; our duty is to fall to our knees and pray for the successful carrying out of the Council. I ask you all, my dears, from the bottom of my heart, be vigilant and pray this week, that the Lord may enlighten our hierarchs and members of the Council with a spirit of reason and piety in their election of a new Patriarch for our Church. On Sunday, January 25, in St. Nicholas Church a moleben will be served on the occasion of the Council’s beginning. On February 1, a thanksgiving moleben will also be served, on the occasion of the new Patriarch’s enthronement. By the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Holy Hierarchs of Moscow, and all the Saints glorified in Russia, may the Lord God have mercy on us.

Дорогіе о Господѣ Братья и Сестры,
Послѣ кончины Святѣйшаго Патріарха Алексія 5го декабря 2008, великая скорбь посѣтила осиротѣвшую Русскую Православную Церковь и сорокъ дней мы молились за новопреставленнаго Патріарха. Настало важное время для всѣхъ русскихъ православныхъ христіанъ – избраніе новаго предстоятеля нашей Святой Церкви. 25го по 29го января, въ первопрестольномъ градѣ Москвѣ пройдетъ Архiерейскій Соборъ и Помѣстный Соборъ Русской Православный Церкви, на которомъ состоятся выборы новаго Патріарха. Соборъ – это не просто собраніе делегатовъ, вѣдь самъ Господь глава Церкви и Онъ невидимо присутствуетъ на Соборѣ черезъ благодать Святого Духа. Сила Святого Духа непостижимая, „Святымъ Духомъ всяка душа живится, и чистотою возвышается, свѣтлѣется троическимъ единствомъ, священнотайне“. Усилимъ наши скромныя молитвы Пастыреначальнику Христу, чтобы на Помѣстномъ Соборѣ явилась и исполнилась Его Святая Воля. Въ наше время многіе люди считаютъ своимъ долгомъ толковать и разсуждать о дѣйствіяхъ Собора, но это не законно, наше дѣло приклонить колѣни и молиться за успѣшное проведеніе Собора. Отъ всей душы прошу васъ, дорогіе мои, бдите и молитесь, чтобы Господь вразумилъ нашихъ Архипастырей и членовъ Собора духомъ разума и благочестія для избранія Первосвятителя нашей Церкви. Въ воскресенье 25го января, въ Свято-Николаевскомъ Храмѣ будетъ отслуженъ особый молебенъ передъ началомъ собора. Въ воскресенье 1го февраля, въ Свято-Николаевскомъ Храмѣ также состоится благодарственный молебенъ послѣ интронизацiи новаго Патріарха. По молитвамъ Пресвятой Богородицы, Святыхъ Первосвятителей Московскихъ, и всѣхъ Святыхъ въ Земли Россiистѣй Просіявшихъ, да помилуетъ насъ Господь Богъ.
